Our Services

Our firm works to build and inspire confidence in the capacity of governments, communities, and many others to work together to better determine, and then serve, the public good. In all our projects, we strive to demonstrate that participating in public processes is a valuable use of people’s time that can produce better, more broadly supported outcomes.

With hundreds of projects completed to date, our team designs and delivers public processes that meaningfully engage many different voices in discussions about all things public – from public assets and public policies to public spaces and public services. We do this by:

  • Understanding the history of, and the context in which, the process is taking place

  • Identifying and mapping the people and organizations most influenced by the situation or decision at hand

  • Connecting to those people and organizations – whether at the grassroots or large institutions – to understand their perspectives and priorities

  • Organizing and sharing information to support informed discussion, including being transparent about the reason for the engagement and the various mandates, roles, responsibilities, and accountabilities of all involved

  • Facilitating constructive discussions among a wide variety of individuals and organizations with different mandates, interests, and perspectives

  • Using a creative mix of tools and techniques to best reach and engage different voices – whether online, in person, through social media, pop-ups, forums, workshops, charrettes, interviews, surveys, advisory groups, etc.

  • Writing summary reports of feedback that accurately reflect perspectives shared, with a special focus on where perspectives are shared and where opinions differ, and why

  • Ultimately ensuring that public sector decision-makers, along with all participants, have a comprehensive understanding of the outcomes of the process, to best inform their next steps

While doing this work, our team works regularly in partnership with organizations that have specialized expertise and experience that complements our own. When working with Indigenous peoples, we are frequent collaborators with Nbisiing Consulting.

We also have a 25+ member Consultation Crew that we call on regularly to support larger projects.
